Goings On Around the Clubhouse
The spring has begun at the Kempton Clubhouse and the daffodils are in full glorious bloom. The trees are budding and turning the countryside green. We already have the air conditioning going at the Arizona clubhouse and offices and the days are getting hot. It has been a dry spring and we have had to do extra watering.
My latest book, Bigfoot Nation, will be released on May 22. It covers the history of bigfoot and sasquatch in North America from the early 1800s right up to this year! Packed with illustrations, this is the ultimate history of the giant hairy critter.
The new season of Ancient Aliens has started. The first six new episodes will air on the History Channel from April 27 to June 1, and the next seven new episodes will air from July 20 to August 24. Two new 2-hour episodes will air in the Fall.
I will be attending the upcoming AlienCon 2018 from June 15 to 17 with Giorgio and others from Ancient Aliens. This second AlienCon will be held at the Pasadena Convention Center and promises to be an out-of-this-world occasion! Come and check out our table in the exhibitors section! See more details about the event, including ticket information and other attendees, at: http://www.thealiencon.com
The mid-June convention is making scheduling other events a little tricky and we are planning on book signings at both of our bookstores in Arizona and Illinois. Stay tuned for the announcements.
Our next WEX expedition is from September 14 to 27 to Paris, Brittany, and Ireland. We fly to Paris and have a couple of days of sightseeing in the historic Cult of Love. We then go by bus to Mont St. Michel in Brittany. From there we drive to the town Quimper where we explore Carnac and the many dolmens and standing stones in the area. We visit Chartres Cathedral, full of hidden symbolic images, on the way back to Paris and then fly to Dublin in Ireland where we visit Newgrange and the Hill of Tara. Check the WEX Events page for the full itinerary, which is still subject to minor changes.
After consulting Mike Migliore, who runs WEX Club Cruises, we have decided the start date for our 11-day expedition to Antarctica will be December 10, 2019. We will fly to Buenos Aires, Argentina and then fly to Ushuaia in Tierra del Fuego, the southernmost city in the world. From there we will embark on a double-hulled exploration ship and spend five full days in Antarctica with lots of shore excursions. All excursions, meals and drinks are included in the package. Lots of special presentations will be given by me and others on this cruise. Contact Mike for questions on the ship at the wexclubcruises website. This might be the time to cross Antarctica off your bucket list! Check out the web pages at: www.wexclubcruises.com
In January we had a WEX excursion to Mexico during which we visited Olmec and Mayan sites. It was a great time checking out the pyramids and megaliths in the Olmec areas near Veracruz on the Gulf Coast. We drove into the volcanic mountains around Santiago de Tuxtla where the Olmecs quarried and made their 20-ton heads. We finished the trip at the Temple of Inscriptions, Lord Pacal’s tomb at Palenque, a site that the whole group acknowledged was fantastic. We had a great trip to Bangkok, Kathmandu, Agra and Delhi last fall. We met up with WEX member Lee Sullivan in New Delhi and our group made a trip on the new expressway to Agra to see the Taj Mahal.
Afterwards, some of our group flew back to the USA from Kathmandu while a few of us flew to Chitwan National Park in southern Nepal and rode elephants while searching for rhinos, deer and wild peacocks. Thanks to WEX manager Govinda Panta for helping put together the itinerary and covering the details.
Check out the Retro Drive-In website with its movie posters, trailers and more. A good way to spend a Saturday afternoon if you are not going to a drive-in that night! It is currently under construction, but you can check it out at www.retrodrive-in.com
