Goings On Around the Clubhouse
We had a quiet New Years at the clubhouse in Arizona playing pinball and plotting our next trips around the world. Winter is settling in at both Illinois and Arizona and we are thankful for fireplaces that keep us cozy. Some WEX members have dropped by the Illinois and the Arizona clubhouses, so keep us in mind on your travels. Old friend, engineer and author Chris Dunn dropped by for the weekend in Illinois. In Arizona, we had a small party at the clubhouse with old friend and author Brad Olsen, Zuni elder Clifford Mahooty, and other friends. The new WEX tourist rental across the street from the Arizona clubhouse is almost ready. Stay tuned for some photos.
My latest book, Antarctica and the Secret Space Program, was released in June. It covers the bizarre history of Antarctica, beginning before World War II and continuing to the present time. Get a copy today!
I went to Los Angeles for a week in mid-November to shoot some episodes for Season 13 of Ancient Aliens. Old friends Giorgio Tsoukalos, William Henry, and Nick Pope were there, as was William Shatner. Giorgio and I shot a special episode of Ancient Aliens with him that was a lot of fun. Look for this special to air on the History Channel this spring.
The covid-19 pandemic has changed all of our lives, but our Illinois bookstore and all the clubhouses are open and we are adapting to modern life as best we can. We even have a new WEX Face Mask, produced in Kempton, that is available in the WEX online store, or just give us a call and order one by phone. They are only $14.95, postage paid in the United States. Be stylish and be safe!
We expect to take our next trip in April to the fabulous Mayan city of Copan in Honduras and the Olmec areas of the highlands of Guatemala—an area hardly known to archeologists or tourists. This 14-day trip to Guatemala and Honduras is scheduled right now for April 10-23. We fly to Guatemala City and then our private bus takes us across southern Guatemala to the border town of Copan in Honduras and then later into the largely unexplored Olmec highlands of the Pacific Coast of Guatemala. Our private bus will take us through the lush hills and forests of the highlands to the ancient capital of Quiché Mayans, Santa Cruz del Quiché. It will be an exciting time in these magical countries.
We are also planning a trip to Athens to look at the many megalithic sites in Greece in June. Give us a call or an email if you are interested in this trip. Check out all the details at: https://wexclub.com/events
To facilitate people who would like to go to Antarctica but feel they can’t afford it, we are offering a payment plan. With the unfolding chaos of 2020, we conferred with Mike Migliore of Holiday Maker Travel, the agency running the WEX Club cruises, and decided to reschedule the cruise for December of 2021, so your monthly payment could be quite affordable if you sign up soon. Mike tells me that Hurtigruten Cruises has a new expedition ship for Antarctica and we can be one of the early groups to use this ship.
Giorgio Tsoukalos has agreed to participate in our 11-day expedition and the whole group will fly to Buenos Aires, Argentina and then fly to Ushuaia in Tierra del Fuego, the southernmost city in the world. From there we will embark on a double-hulled exploration ship and spend five full days in Antarctica with lots of shore excursions. All excursions, meals and drinks are included in the package. Lots of special presentations will be given by me, Giorgio and others on this cruise. Contact Mike for questions on the ship at the wexclubcruises website.
Participants need to sign up early to confirm our space on the ship and receive substantial discounts, so if you are interested, we need you to commit in the next few months! This has been the snag in the works with us scheduling the trip in the past—the cruise ship cancels our hold on rooms pretty early. Adventures Unlimited and the World Explorers Club now have several YouTube channels. The channels have lots of fascinating documentaries, lectures, Indiana Jones-type movies, and other videos, and it is free to become a subscriber. Most of our movies and trailers are now at the Retro Drive-In website with its movie posters, free movies, rare action serials and more. We are adding movies and trailers all the time, so it’s a good way to while away a few hours if you are locked in your house or on a banana boat to Madagascar. You can get there by using our Retro Drive-In website at www.retrodrive-in.com
For all you cryptozoologists and bigfoot fans, we also have a bigfoot-apeman movie site: www.bigfootmovies.net This site has heaps of bigfoot and apeman-gorilla movies to watch for free, plus bigfoot news and other fun stuff. Watch them on your tablet after a hard day of searching for cryptids!
